Parents and Scouters,
First Congratulations to Josh Holt for earning his Eagle Scout this week! Great Job and Congratulations. Otherwise – 24 Days and Counting! Wow! So little to go so much to do!
1) Patches and Goodies - For those who have asked – Yes we are doing a final mailing – we just received the Jamboree numerals yesterday here in Stuttgart – we are conducting a packing/mailing session at the Cass house tonight and will get your items in the mail tomorrow. If you do not want items mailed please let me know. Also, I need the following parents to confirm their addresses: John Woughter, Charlie Everhardt, Vince Cozzone, Will Heiges, James Beatty – thanks for the double-tap, I just want to be sure. For those persons in Stuttgart – we will have a pick-up window next Wed. at 7 p.m. at Patch Scout Hut, Bldg 2312 if this is not suitable please contact Annie Cass at cassja91@googlemail.com.
2) T-shirts - For those parents in the states if you recieve your t-shirt far enough in advance please try it on and let us know soonest if you need a different size…we may be able to adjust but no guarantees.
3) Equipment Inspections – By now you should have recieved an email or briefing from your SM or ASM about your sons packing list. Please address the issues and come prepared. My observations:
a) Medicines – Medicines should come in a zip lock bag in the original container with just enough medication for the Jamboree in the container. Instructions should also be included.
b) Uniforms – Many partials – please ensure you have the reccommended type and ammount of clothing - we are representing TAC and want to put our best foot forward.
c) Marking of Items - ALL items should have your scouts name on it (socks, pens, books, patch trading bags, hats – you name it, please ensure this is done
d) Sleeping Bags – Lots of full winter weight bags – this is VA in the summer – I am taking a fleece blanket and poncho liner – I fully expect to sleep on top of my sheets most nights.
4) Spending Money – please see the following link for spending money at the Jamboree – good option http://www.bsajamboree.org/SmartBracelet.aspx If you choose not to use this option please send your sons spending money in an envelope with the ammount of money on the outside.
5) Visitations - Please see the following link regarding visitations, please note a $10 per car fee will be charged to offset the support costs being charged by the Army. http://www.bsajamboree.org/Parents.aspx If you are planning to visit please let us know so we can ask you to bring some ICE
!
6) Mailing Letters – Please see the following link for sending mail to the Jamboree http://www.bsajamboree.org/Parents.aspx - I would ask each parent to send a letter of encouragement (not too sappy) and positive endorsement to the jamboree. Please try to time the letter to arrive mid-way through the Jamboree.
7) Arrival Information – For most of you I have your arrival information if not please send to cassja91@googlemail.com. I owe you the location of the scout meeting point at Dulles, we are looking for the information and will provide it in our next update.
Lastly, we are putting together a parents guide that will cover some of these issues as well as our timeline ect. I ask you review the guide with your son prior to the Jamboree.
Thanks to the Committee and ASMs for all their support! One final push and we will be on our way!
YIS,
John Cass
