Dear TAC Jamboree Scouts (and parents!)
What you need to know in this email:
1. Poll results for the pre-tour activities
2. Patrol competition – action by the Scouts needed!!
3. T-shirt contest – submit entries by 5 April
4. Jamboree newsletter – sign up now!
5. Pacesetters.
6. Things to be thinking about …
Details:
1. Here (at the bottom of the email) are the results of the poll for our
pre-jamboree tour
activities – thank you to everyone who responded. We’re now working the
detailed itinerary for the 22-25 July time period – more details to
come!
2. Patrol competition … we’d like to get you Scouts working together
and to know each other a bit more: sounds like we need a competition!
OK, this should be pretty simple: Each patrol (ideally the patrol
leader) will create an email and forward it on to someone else in the
patrol. That 2nd person forwards it a 3rd member in the patrol who
sends it on to the 4th and so on. The last patrol member sends the
email back to the patrol leader who in turn forwards it to me (at my
email address john.woughter@gmail.com) and the SPL.
Guidelines: This doesn’t have to be all that difficult … it’s OK if
the patrol leader sends his email to more than one patrol member. For
that matter, each patrol member can send it to more than one other
patrol member … just as long as there is one (and only one from a
particular patrol) email thread at the end that shows each patrol member
received the email and forwarded it on at least once (more than once is
OK – that might happen depending on how you go about it!) Saying
something like ‘Oh, Bobby got the my email’ is not enough – Bobby needs
to receive the email at some point and forward it on to someone else in
the patrol (or back to the patrol leader.)
Prizes: What can be better than winning the first official TAC Jamboree
patrol competition? Not much, but the Scoutmaster has a huge box of
patches (that we’ll eventually use for trading at the jamboree), and
he’s agreed to let the winning patrol grab a patch of their choice.
Note: Are you wondering what patrol you’re in (or for the patrol
leaders, who is in your patrol?) If you missed it, you can find the
patrol list on our Jamboree website – http://www.tacjamboree.com/ – the
site is worth a look even if you do know which patrol you’re in!
3. T-shirt contest … calling all artists, creative folks and those
who have an idea on what a cool contingent t-shirt should look like!
We’ll have jamboree t-shirts for the whole contingent – what should they
look like? You’ll decide!
Guidelines:
– Deadline: Submissions should be sent to me not later than April 5th.
– The T-shirt design should commemorate one hundred years of Boy
Scouting in some fashion.
– Designs should be limited to 6 colors.
– Use of the National 100th Anniversary logo (see the top right of our
contingent jamboree website) is optional. The design must contain a
fleur de lies or the wording “Boy Scouts of America”.
– Each submission should contain only the Scout’s own original artwork,
except for BSA logos. Feel free to use design elements in our jamboree
patches if you’d like.
– Registered, trademarked, or copyrighted material should not be
included.
– Multiple submissions can be made by an individual Scout.
– All designs must be in keeping with Boy Scout principles of course!
We’ll set up a voting mechanism, and once we get all the designs, we’ll
let you know how to vote on them!
4. National Jamboree newsletter. Sign up now for the National Jamboree
Newsletter www.bsajamboree.org/NewsLetters.
5. Pacesetters – everybody (Scouts, leaders and parents) take a look at
this website: http://leaders-for-life.org/
It talks about physical preparations for the jamboree – and we need to be
thinking about that! As you should have heard by now, we’ll be doing a lot
of walking in challenging weather! There will be a special award to earn at
the jamboree, but it requires each Scout to earn the Personal Fitness merit
badge beforehand. For those who haven’t completed it yet, one of the
requirements is a 3-month fitness program. Given that the jamboree starts
in the end of July, you still have time (but not a lot of time to spare!) to
earn that merit badge.
6. Things to be thinking about: Gateway and patrol flag designs -
coming soon!
You’ll be seeing more emails that will be coming quicker – please do try
to read your emails often (I know that won’t be a problem for many
Scouts, but some may have to make an extra effort to read their emails -
that’s where the patrol leadership {‘Top 4′, Patrol Leaders and
Assistants} come in … before you know it, we’ll be there at the
jamboree!
Yours in Scouting,
John Woughter
