Just when you thought it was over

Posted by TroopWebmaster On September - 10 - 20101 COMMENT

10 September 2010, its been a month since the family BBQ that crowned an amazing 3 weeks.  There is still lots of stuff to do though…

    • Many of us have seen the emails flying around about having someone elses scout shorts or socks (I personally have some items left in lost & found to be mailed back to their owners which I will do at some point, scout’s honor!).  That is not all though.

    • The webmaster and scribe are working on a dvd movie/slideshow for our troop.  We will likely have to use snail mail to get the final product to our troop members so we will re-confirm some mailing addresses before too long.

    • Then there are the emails from National Supply – Some of the items you missed at the Jamboree are for sale now including the patch of the day sets and the Betchel Summit gear.  Wear the summit gear proudly until 2013 when the next National Jambo is there.

    • Finally there are still patches for sale.  If you ran out or didn’t save  a set for yourself/ parents/ grandparents/ annoying little brother, you can still order a set.  Tell everyone and spread the word!  We want all the patches to go to good homes… it is not pretty the things that happen to orphan patches… stuck in a box… in a basement… in the dark…  The HORROR!!!!!

Anyway, smile guys, because you made it and the laundry is (I hope) all done!

    Dear Parents and Family,

This is it…… This is the end of the National Scouting Jamboree 2010. This past week has been marked by fun and lots of laughs. For 7 days we have been working towards obtaining our rockers and meeting different scouts from around the USA. Alot of us traded patches with the friends we met along the way, and others exchanged addresses. Though sadly this past week has to end just like all fun things in the world of Scouting. Though it does not mark the end of the friendships we have amde this past week.

Aside from having to sleep under the stars and endure waking up at 3 am to prepare for a storm that was supposed to hit at 3:10 am we still all had a good nights sleep all wet and cold. After waking up we packed up the soaking gear into the bus and are now sitting here typing this message.

While everyone else works The Webmaster and yours truly (The Scribe) are putting together a secret project that is so secret the mere mention of it can cause you to laugh…. The project will be revealed at Thursdays BBQ as a farewell present to the entire troop.

On the note of the end. As a whole we all want to thank the parents and families of the scouts who attended the National Jamboree. We also want to thank you for your patience as a parents, especially when we didnt update for a while. Once again thank you to all parents and family members for your love and support throughout this whole 3 year ordeal.

    Dear Parents and Family,

We have all been working hard on our rockers.  Most of us have already completed all of them, while others are just finishing.  With rockers being done most of us are now simply focusing on our favorite activity from now on.

Some of us are meeting some friends from long ago or simply meeting up with friends that we know from home. A Estes and W Estes met up with friends from Michigan met while doing their pre-jamboree shakedown.  Mr Johnson even spent a morning with his first scoutmaster doing the conservation trail together.   Its all been really cool not to mention a blast of fun.

Yet just like anything else in this world our Jamboree is coming to an end.  With the Closing Jamboree Show last night. We are all straining to squeeze every last drop of fun out of this organized chaos.   Though the arena show was just last night, and we don’t end till Tuesday we are still starting to feel the stress of the end. Today was a big day for all of us.  About 20 of us completed our 6 rockers and the rest of us have only 1 or 2 stamps to collect and we are free to patch trade or do anything we want!

The Arena Show on the other hand was amazing.  It was loaded with famous singers, guest celebrities, and not to mention the fact that there was the biggest fireworks display ever held ona a miltary base.  It was a spectacular show!  We had two famous bands play for us.  Both of which were either involved in scouting or were all scouts at one point. The bands were Honor Society a new band to the music scene, and the band Switchfoot which have been around for a long time.  Guest stars like the host of “Dirty Jobs” Mike Rowe came and shared a story of his first days of scouting.  Then we were shown an amazing video of the new National Jamboree site in West Virginia.  The site was beautiful and now we all want to go!
